Karen Bunnell"I have the best job in the world. I work with an outstanding physician team, office staff and multidisciplinary hospital team to provide compassionate and high-quality care to a very special patient population that is near and dear to my heart. It isn't ‘work' when you get to live your dream every day and touch so many special people's lives."
Karen Bunnell is a nurse practitioner, employed by St. Vincent Hospital, specializing in Head and Neck Cancer patients. She interacts with St. Vincent cancer patients and their caregivers from the initial phase of diagnosis through surgical intervention and hospitalization to the postoperative recovery phase with transition to home. With the opening of a 10-bed Progressive Care Unit at St. Vincent Hospital, Karen was instrumental in program development, training of staff, and development of hospital documents focused on the continuum of care for patients.
Karen received her Bachelor of Science degree in nursing (1984) and her Master of Science degree (2001), both from Indiana University School of Nursing. She is Board Certified by the American Nurses Credentialing Center as an Adult Nurse Practitioner. Karen has a longstanding interest in the care of head and neck cancer patients. Prior to becoming a nurse practitioner, she was a head and neck oncologic surgical nurse and is now a valuable member of our extended head and neck cancer multidisciplinary team.
